Using Your Smartphone Smartly

Have you ever let your mind wander for a moment about all of the amazing technological advances that our society has been graced with?

Never mind that we can climb into a steel tube and fly thousands of miles in a matter of a few hours, or that we take in a sporting event live through that magic rectangle in our living rooms from continents away...or if taking it in live presents a conflict, you can even hit a button on the remote control for your magic rectangle to record your event for later viewing!

But we're not here to talk about those things, as cool as they are. We're here to talk about the handheld device in your pocket; the one with which you can access all information that is known to man, or if it's more your style, look at cat videos. It's your smartphone.

warner-app_iphone.jpgKnow what else you can do with it? Streamline your day. As we plow ahead deeper into fourth quarter, time is going to be one thing you had just a little bit more of. Well, nobody has figured out yet how to add a 25th hour to the day, but by using the hours we already have a little bit more efficiently, we can get a lot more done.
One of the ways you can do this is to leverage the apps available to you on your smartphone. There are thousands of them. I know, I know, who has time to research thousands of apps to identify which ones could be useful to you?

Believe it or not, quite a few people do, and they wrote articles about their findings. You are, of course, free to do your own research, but this article on Entrepreneur.com by a gentleman name Geoff Weiss is good one to read. It identifies 44 different apps that today's business professional might find useful in enhancing their productivity, complete with infographics and analysis on the pros and cons of each one.

Obligatory Disclaimers: First, not all apps are free. Fortunately, most are quite cheap, in the neighborhood of a buck or two. Second, not all apps may be available for both Android and iPhone. Third, and this applies to all apps, not just productivity ones, apps do consume data from your mobile plan. While most are efficient and unlikely to impact your montly bill apart from their one-time purchase price, it's worth monitoring to be on the safe side.
