2026 HSA Contribution Limits and HDHP Requirements Announced

The IRS has released the inflation-adjusted limits for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and High Deductible Health Plans (HDHPs) for calendar year 2026.
For individuals with self-only HDHP coverage, the annual HSA contribution limit will rise to $4,400, while those with family coverage may contribute up to $8,750.
To qualify as a high deductible health plan in 2026, the plan must have a minimum annual deductible of $1,700 for self-only coverage or $3,400 for family coverage. The maximum out-of-pocket limits (excluding premiums) are set at $8,500 for self-only coverage and $17,000 for family coverage.
Additionally, the maximum newly available amount for an excepted benefit Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) will increase to $2,200 for plan years beginning in 2026.
