Anthem Blue Cross of CA and Doc’s Surgical Hospital Terminate Contract
Small Group, Individual | CA Large Group | CA 

Anthem Blue Cross of CA has been in discussions to renegotiate the terms of Doc’s Surgical Hospital’s Commercial Hospital Agreement. Regrettably, Anthem Blue Cross and Doc’s Surgical Hospital were unable to reach agreement, and the contract terminated effective April 15, 2025.

Please note that from April 15, 2025, Anthem Blue Cross and Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company members who receive care at Doc’s Surgical Hospital on or after the termination date may be subject to greater financial liability or they may not authorize or approve scheduled or elective admissions. Anthem Blue Cross of CA will continue to provide coverage for emergency services provided at any hospital, including Doc’s Surgical Hospital, to all members. 

Anthem Blue Cross of CA notified physicians who admit to Doc’s Surgical Hospital of this development so that they can arrange for admission of all Anthem Blue Cross and Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company members to alternate facilities. The following is a partial list of alternate contracted facilities in the Doc’s Surgical Hospital service area: 
  • Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
  • Good Samaritan Hospital
  • Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center
  • LA Downtown Medical Center
  • Marina Del Rey Hospital
  • Providence Saint John's Health Center
  • Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center
  • Southern California Healthcare System
  • UCLA Medical Center

Note that the alternate hospitals may not be participating in all Anthem networks. Anthem members have been advised to verify with both their provider and the Anthem Blue Cross website at www.anthem.com/ca  that the alternate facility is participating in their benefit plan’s network. For a complete list of all Anthem Blue Cross contracted providers, please reference the Anthem Blue Cross of CA website noted above.

Members who are pregnant, currently undergoing a course of treatment, have a current authorization for health care services or are otherwise concerned about disruption of treatment, should call our toll-free customer service number 1-844-971-0117 or the toll-free member services telephone number on their member ID card. 

As of April 22, 202 , Anthem Blue Cross of CA also sent this termination announcement to members and  clients.
