UnitedHealthcare: Vital Medication Program Included for Renewing Groups

UnitedHealthcare is pleased to announced that its Vital Medication Program will be included for renewing 1/1/23 groups, and after.

UnitedHealthcare is taking an important step in its continued efforts to make prescription drugs more affordable by eliminating out-of-pocket costs (copays and deductibles) for preferred, rapid- , short- and long-acting insulins, as well as the following preferred vital-use drugs that are critical in maintaining the health of its members:
  • Epinephrine — allergic reactions
  • Glucagon — hypoglycemia
  • Naloxone — opioid overuse
  • Albuterol — asthma
The $0 applies to copays and deductibles. Drugs in the Vital Medication Program will be priced at $0 for members regardless of their plan design. (Health Savings Account plans and copay plans will both have $0 cost share for these medications).

Member letters will not be sent out, but members will notice the change at point of sale starting in January. Provider tools like PreCheck MyScript will highlight the $0 cost share at the point of prescribing and on the online member portal on myUHC.com.

UnitedHealthcare is committed to being part of the solution, and recognizes their responsibility to encourage collaboration and cooperation to make prescription drugs more affordable.
